Welcome to our Dry Ice Cleaning Services

At Blackwells Inc., we specialize in providing advanced cleaning solutions using dry ice technology. Our innovative approach eliminates the need for water while effectively removing contaminants from various surfaces. With our dry ice blasting technique, we ensure a thorough and environmentally friendly cleaning process that meets the highest standards of quality and safety.

How It Works

Dry Ice, also known as frozen CO2, serves as the primary component in our cleaning process. We utilize high-density pellets propelled at supersonic speeds with compressed air. Upon contact with a surface, these pellets undergo sublimation, transitioning directly from a solid to a gas state. This rapid transformation results in a micro-explosion, expanding the pellet’s volume nearly 800 times within milliseconds. As a result, contaminants are lifted from the substrate without leaving any residue behind.

Environmentally Friendly Solution

One of the key advantages of our dry ice cleaning method is its minimal environmental impact. Unlike traditional cleaning methods that often produce secondary waste streams, our process generates no additional waste. The dry ice pellets used in our services are made from food-grade carbon dioxide approved by regulatory authorities such as the FDA, EPA, and USDA. This ensures not only effective cleaning but also compliance with stringent safety and environmental standards.

Benefits for You

  • Capable of cleaning in place: Our dry ice blasting technique allows for cleaning equipment in place without the need for disassembly, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.
  • No water is used: The absence of water in our cleaning process makes it safe for use on electrical components, reducing the risk of damage or malfunction.
  • Gentle on delicate equipment: Our method is non-abrasive, ensuring that even the most delicate equipment is cleaned thoroughly without the risk of damage.
  • Effective against contaminants: Whether it’s mold, Listeria, or E. coli, our dry ice cleaning technology effectively removes a wide range of contaminants, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment.

Contaminated robotic injection molding machinery, used in automotive manufacturing, cleaned with dry ice blasting (photos below). Dry ice blasting uses no water, leaves no chemical residue, and many times allows machinery to be cleaned in place on the production line.

Cleaning Without Contaminants

Dry Ice Blasting is a highly recommended cleaning method in the food industry.  The dry ice pellets sublimate into a gas on contact with a surface, so there is no drying time associated with the cleaning process.  Water can be left behind in traditional cleaning, which can lead to mold growth and product contamination.  Dry Ice blasting can be used anywhere, from bulk ingredient storage to ready to eat surfaces.

Food Industry Equipment Applications:

  • Dry Ingredient Bulk Storage: Silos, Bins, etc.
  • Ovens / Dryers
  • Conveyors, Cooking surfaces
  • Labelers, Glue Assembly Areas
  • Bag in Box Formers, de-nesters
  • Palletizer

Hard to reach areas of the plant still need cleaning.  Blasting with Dry Ice removes dusty oil and fume accumulations from areas that can’t be cleaned with water.  Areas over process lines or electrical equipment are ideal for dry ice cleaning since nothing falls to the ground except the buildup being removed.

When deep cleaning is necessary, but water blasting would be impossible to contain, think Dry Ice Blasting.

Facility Cleaning Applications:

  • Overhead work / ceilings
  • Mezzanine cleaning
  • Diamond plate flooring
  • Exhaust fans / louvers
  • Stairwell cleaning
  • Walls / electrical boxes
  • Server rooms

Make Your Downtime Count

Industrial rollers tend to collect residue over time that can cause inconsistencies and deviations to the final product.  Having these rollers cleaned is the only way to keep the material in compliance.

Instead of removing the rollers to clean them, let us clean them in place, with NO DISASSEMBLY REQUIRED.  The rollers are ready for production as soon as we finish cleaning.

Often with roller cleaning, a cooldown period is required before blasting begins.  Dry Ice blasting a hot surface increases the thermal shock.  This causes residue buildup to be removed quicker and easier.

Industries that use rollers:

  • Textiles
  • Specialty fabrics
  • Printing
  • Polymer sheeting
