Corroded and leaking storage tanks can cause facility and environmental contamination, primary containment issues, possible damage to equipment, and can affect the health and safety of personnel. In addition, a breach in secondary containment could result in the contamination of groundwater and damage to the environment. Any of these will in turn affect the profitability of the company.

A new tank can be expensive. But it may be the only answer, if a degrading tank problem is not addressed promptly.

Tank Coatings

If the tank is structurally sound, an approved lining or tank coating applied to the interior is the ideal solution. Approved linings have excellent chemical resistance to many concentrated acids, including 98% sulfuric acid, as well as alkalis and some solvents.

Lining a tank can be dangerous in a number of ways. A tank is considered a "confined space" because its construction design has limited openings for entry or exit, unfavorable natural ventilation and has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere. Because it is a confined space, lining a tank requires specific protocols for entry.
