Blackwell's Inc. is an industrial cleaning company near Atlanta, Georgia. We have the experience to clean silos anywhere in the southeastern United states.  Depending on the silo and the material stored, we use different cleaning techniques, including CO2 or Dry Ice Blasting.

Because of their confined space, silos require specific protocols for entry in order to clean. We are OSHA Confined Space certified which means we have the skills, training, and safety equipment to go where others can't.  All of our associates are 10-hour OSHA certified.

Clean silos maximize storage efficiency. In a silo, material is fed through the top and removed from the bottom. The free movement of the stored materials ensures that the oldest material is used first and does not contaminate newer, fresher material.

In some storage silos, all that is needed for a fire or explosion are a sufficient fuel source, oxygen, and heat or spark. Grain dusts, cotton lint, and many other organic materials are flammable. Under certain conditions, they present explosion hazards. In other storage silos, flammable materials of all types may be present.

Manual cleaning, by lowering a worker on a rope to free material, is the simplest way to clean silos. However, manual cleaning is dangerous due to the release of material, the possible lack of oxygen, the presence of gases such as nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO). A worker inside a silo could face the gaseous products of microbial decomposition including methane (CH4), ammonia (NH3), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Dusts, molds, and toxins (aflatoxin, mycotoxin, endotoxin, etc.) can cause illness or acute respiratory infections.
