For many manufacturers, as much as 35 % of the energy used to make a product, goes to heating, cooling, and ventilation.  Making smart decisions about heating and cooling can have a big effect on manufacturing utility bills.

A heating and cooling system is made up of many parts. Pictured here is the centrifugal fan inside an air handler, which is a device that circulates air throughout a building. They are generally a part of the cooling and heating units. It’s primary purpose is to move the air in a building.

Air handlers are often neglected, but when they are clean, can help equipment run more efficiently and improve indoor air quality. If air movement is hindered by dirt and dust build up on the blowers blades, the air movement may not be enough to heat and cool the way it’s designed to do. Air handlers frequently build up condensation and this can act as a breeding ground for mold which can grow just about anywhere there is a regular source of moisture.

Cleaning the fan blades and other parts of the air handler helps to increase air flow, improves air quality, and increases the efficiency of the motor.

The simple removal of dirt and dust contaminant buildup on the air handler’s blower blades can improve air movement by as much as 50 percent. So not only do the clean blades increase the air handlers efficiency to move the air, making everyone in the building more comfortable, but improves the quality of air, and lowers the operating costs for the manufacturer.
