Preparing the surface for whatever application you require is one of the most important aspects of a successful coating installation.

Blackwell\'s Inc. utilizes Blastrac shotblasting equipment, Diamond Grinders and Bartells scarifiers in conjunction with the knowledge of our highly trained associates. Each and every piece of equipment is maintained and operated by competent associates, who have been trained to safely execute the task. Blastrac shotblast machines give the concrete surface a rough or "sandpaper" feeling. Diamond grinders are capable of lightly scratching the concrete surface up to total cap removal. Bartell units are aggressive units that utilize rotating cutting wheels to scarify the substrate. Mechanical preparation promotes adhesion of coating to the substrate. Shotblast and concrete planers are virtually dust-free with large vacuum units attached which vacuum up and filters out dust as surface is prepared.';

Our associates are trained in confined space entry, Hazard Communications, HAZMAT and HAZWOPER.

Blackwell\'s Inc. offers a variety of chemical resistant coatings. Epoxy or vinyl ester coating can provide resistance to most aggressive substances.

It is very important that all items that are potentially exposed to the floors in question be divulged before any work can begin. var t_joint_work = '<< Back to Coating
Joint Fillers
Joint fillers will provide protection against joint breakdown. Most concrete floors contain joints, known as construction or control joints, which are placed at the time the concrete is originally poured. These joints control the cracking of concrete during hydration. They identify the termination of pour boundaries as well.

Joint fillers can be pigmented in a variety of colors. Some epoxy fillers are ready for traffic in less than 10 minutes, thus avoiding any delay in any work or production.

Blackwell\'s Inc. is well versed in layout, cutting and filling of these concrete joints. When properly applied, they will offer a "seamless" appearance to your floor.';

We utilize cementitious repair mortars, epoxies, and a host of other materials to patch and repair concrete surfaces.

Many warehouses utilize forklifts and other heavy equipment that cause damage to concrete surfaces. Damaged concrete creates damaged equipment. Possibly you have had to relocate equipment within the work area and it has left behind holes and other damage. var t_epoxy_floors = '<< Back to Coating
Epoxy Floor Systems
Epoxy floor systems are quite versatile. They are durable and offer great adhesion. Epoxy is available in a variety of colors.

Epoxy coatings are available in a variety of blends, with solvent free 100% solids being the most popular. We utilize Novalac epoxy when an area calls for high chemical resistance. Epoxies offer superb adhesion and are sometimes used as a primer.

Epoxy products are two-component, comprised of a resin and a hardener. These are typically installed at approximately 8 to 35 mils thickness and thicker if aggregate-filled.

They can produce non-slip surfaces with the addition of aggregate and can be top-coated with urethane for a more scuff resistant finish.';

var t_hardeners = '<< Back to Coating
Hardener and Densifiers
A variety of products are available in today\'s densifier market -- lithium silicate, sodium silicanate, sodium fluorisilicate, potassium silicate, and sodium silicate technology. These products are applied to a concrete surface and then allowed to penetrate the surface, thus leaving no film or membrane behind.

During the application process, a chemical reaction occurs between the hardener and the concrete slab\'s free alkalines. This reaction densifies the concrete, thus tightening the slab surface. Testing has proved that a densified surface will increase compressive strength, abrasion resistance, and improve it\'s resistance to chemical penetration. Even though floors will stain with no film on their surface, there is nothing to scratch, peel or delaminate.

The overall appearance is quite appealing as well. The hardened surface will take on a "polished" appearance when it is crossed over. It effectively takes on an improved appearance over time (providing it is given maintenance). The end result is a durable concrete surface that your company will be 100% satisfied with.';

var t_urethane = '<< Back to Coating
Urethane Floor Systems
The urethane system is quite durable and can be colored with ease. It is typically of a high gloss appearance and is quite striking to look at.

Urethane systems are typically installed with an epoxy based primer. An installation consisting of epoxy primer and two coats of moisture-cured urethane remains one of the industry\'s best values. Chemically-resistant urethanes are often used in aircraft hangars.

Urethane coatings are available in varied systems. One component and two component systems are quite popular. One component product is called "moisture cured urethane" and is solvent borne. Water-based urethanes are known for their outstanding adhesion properties, while being less durable than the solvent borne systems.';

var t_quartz = '<< Back to Coating
Quartz Flooring
Quartz floors are beautiful and quite durable. They are popular in office settings, kitchen areas or wherever you want to "show off" the shine.

The typical quartz floor is built on the integrity of the quartz granule. A thick binder coat of epoxy is installed and while still wet, filled to excess with quartz. Once dry, all excess is swept away and a second bonder is applied. Once again, the wet surface is filled to excess with quartz. Once this dries, a grout coat of clear epoxy is installed to get the surface profile desired. Then a clear chemical resistant topping, either Novalec epoxy or a chemical resistant urethane, is applied. The final system will range in thickness of 1/16" to 1/8". Each quartz coat is identified as a "seeding". Double "seeded" floors are the most popular.

You can create a floor of your choice in various colors. Textures can be altered by varying the final coat\'s thickness. If you desire a smooth surface or a rough surface - no problem! The results will surely amaze you.

Just Out-
This system can now be installed using a clear vinyl ester for great chemical resistance.';

The concrete polishing process is new to the market and is something that is best appreciated firsthand.

To achieve the mirror-like luster from a concrete floor, a process called lapping is involved. In this process a progressively finer abrasive is utilized. Diamonds and other abrasives smooth the surface resulting in a finished floor which looks and feels like polished stone.

Simple and inexpensive cleaning maintenance is all that is required to keep the floor in its original condition, thus eliminating recoating and other problems normally associated with concrete coating.

Polishing your concrete also:

meets and exceeds ADA\'s slip coefficient standards
creates a more dense surface making it 40% more abrasion resistant
reduces lighting cost, by increasing ambient lighting up to 30%
inhibits oil, water and other substances from penetrating
eliminates dusting and fork lift tire marks
creates a low to no maintenance floor solution

Give us a call and we will install a free sample on your facilities concrete!';

These types of systems are suitable for new concrete and provide the necessary protection for a long lasting floor or for use on old concrete to repair any damage which has occurred over the years.

Once we shot blast the floor, it receives a coat of primer followed by epoxy mortar. Once in place, floors are then troweled to create a flat surface. All the joints are saw cut into the now new surface and then filled out flush. Now the floor can be topped with several different materials - whichever fits your particular need or desire. One of the most popular is an epoxy material.
